Jonathan Majors Isn’t Going Away Yet

Jonathan Majors isn’t going away yet, for better or worse. One thing you should know is that Hollywood loves a good comeback story. What happens when that comeback is at the expense of accountability and justice?

Thing is, Jonathan Majors was convicted of third degree assault and harassment. Now he’s been cast in yet another film despite his recent criminal conviction. And not just any film, but a revenge thriller where he plays a CIA interrogator who must go to dark lengths to defeat a malevolent force that has overtaken the woman he loves. Because nothing screams “revenge thriller” like hiring an actual perpetrator of violence, right?

This is the blatant disregard for the seriousness of domestic violence and the lack of consequences for abusers in Hollywood. But hey, as long as they can deliver a good performance, who cares about the safety and well-being of their partners, right? Good enough isn’t good enough, apparently.

And let’s not forget the director, Martin Villeneuve, who just so happens to be the younger brother of renowned filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. It’s no surprise that nepotism is alive and well in Hollywood, but to hand someone with minimal experience a big budget film on a silver platter? Now that’s just insulting to all the talented, hard-working individuals trying to break into the industry.

But wait, it gets better. The producer, Christopher Tuffin, wants to showcase his new global media venture that apparently stands against public opinion and selective prosecution. Because what our society really needs right now is more excuses for abusers and their enablers.

We deserve better than this. We deserve actors that are decent human beings, and an industry that holds bad actors accountable. If you can’t do that, please don’t dangle shiny keys in front of us and distract us from real issues. We’re grown-ups, so are you, you aren’t fooling anyone.

Everything you just said is wrong.
