‘Quiet Place’ Scifi Monsters Are Dumb

Hollywood scifi has a knack for making us question our own intelligence. Exhibit A: The dumb scifi monsters of ‘A Quiet Place’ how we talk about them. Fear not, dear readers, because GFR has interesting insight to share!

You see, the thing about these creatures is that they seem to have contradictory motives and reactions to sound. Are they killing for food or because of the noise itself? It’s a question that still lingers, even after watching the entire film.

And don’t even get me started on the logic (or lack thereof) behind their behavior. Apparently, these creatures have super sensitive hearing, yet they can’t tell the difference between a human scream and a car alarm. Hmm, must be a tough life for them.

Now take a step back. Why is GFR asking these questions … now? Why not three years ago? Is it – perhaps – because there’s a new Quiet Place movie coming out and controversy leads to ticket sales? Why are we settling for this kind of lazy writing? Why are we okay with accepting half-baked argu-tainment? We deserve better, my friends.

Yes, of course it’s time for Hollywood to step up and give us a quality storyline with well-developed creatures and a coherent plot. Of course, good enough just isn’t good enough anymore. Naturally, we shouldn’t have to dumb things down to make everyone happy. Yes, we deserve a smart and clever approach to storytelling.

But they do it anyway. Then sites like GFR call those movies ‘the scariest ever.’ Two years later, they post an article about how the monsters ‘never made sense.’ The circle of life is now complete.

If we’re going to demand better science and technology focus in our films, part of the solution is demanding consistent messaging in our scifi blogs. Demand consistent information about movie McGuffins instead of just accepting whatever is thrown our way. Challenge the writers and creators to give us something truly thought-provoking and well-crafted.

The scifi monsters of A Quiet Place aren’t the real bad guys. Our real enemy is … mediocrity. At the end of the day, we shouldn’t have to settle for half-baked theories and unanswered questions. We deserve a satisfying and intellectually stimulating experience. Let’s make our voices heard and demand better from the entertainment industry.

Everything you just said is wrong.
