“Everyone’s Freaking Out About ‘Enemy Mine’ Scifi Remake?” Uh, No.

One thing you should know about the upcoming remake of scifi movie Enemy Mine: it’s just another example of Hollywood’s lack of originality. An interesting thing about this is that they’ve brought in Terry Matalas, former showrunner for Star Trek: Picard and creator of 12 Monkeys, to write the update. But the thing that gets me about this is that it’s clear they’re banking on his previous successes in the sci-fi genre to bring excitement to the project.

But let’s take a step back and really examine this. Enemy Mine, a film from 1985 that most people don’t even remember, is being remade. It boasted director, Wolfgang “The Neverending Story” Petersen – talk about a blast from the past. So who better to write the remake than someone who has only ever done television work and is now making their feature writing debut? I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Oh, and there’s no director attached yet. Surprise, surprise. But don’t worry, having Matalas on board makes everything okay. Because clearly, his experience writing fan fiction and showrunning for a network like Syfy qualifies him to take on a cult classic like Enemy Mine.

But let’s not forget the important themes of tolerance and mutual respect between different species in the original film. Surely we need an update on that now more than ever, right? I mean, it’s not like there are any other pressing issues or conflicts happening in the world right now…oh wait.

At the end of the day, it’s just another money-making scheme by Hollywood, and they’re not even trying to hide it. They’re digging up old, forgotten films and slapping a new coat of paint on them, hoping to cash in on nostalgia. And while they’re staying true to the source material, it’s clear that profit is their main priority.

What gets me about the Enemy Mine remake is how unoriginal and profit-driven the scifi film industry has become. But hey, as long as it makes money, who cares about creating something new and thought-provoking, right? And who knows, maybe next we’ll see a remake of The NeverEnding Story directed by Michael Bay and starring Dwayne Johnson as Falcor. Because that’s what the world really needs right now.

Everything you just said is wrong.
