Robotic Noir: Mars Express Dystopian Scifi

One thing you should know is that some call Mars Express robotic noir, or dystopian scifi. It’s a ‘fascinating vision of a robotic future was inspired by film noir and Big Tech.’ Others would call it yet another unoriginal, generic animated movie set in space. But wait, it’s different because it features private investigators on Mars! Because clearly the world was just begging for that.

Interesting thing – the director, Jérémie Périn, is known for his work on NSFW music videos and obscure TV series. Because when I think of family-friendly content, I definitely think of someone who specializes in adult-oriented material.

The thing that gets me about this is the director’s attempt to draw inspiration from classic film noir like Chinatown and The Long Goodbye. Because nothing says gritty detective story like a French director trying to mimic American filmmaking.

And let’s not forget the blatant influence of Japanese animation, because Western animation just can’t compete with the “impact” and “efficiency” of drawing less frames but having cooler camera angles. Because who needs fluidity and quality when you can have flashy camera shots, right?

But the sad truth is, we deserve better science and technology focus in our films. Good enough isn’t good enough anymore. It’s time to stop dumbing things down to appease the masses and start creating truly original and thought-provoking content. Save your money and skip Mars Express, because we can do better than this recycled, uninspired mess.

Everything you just said is wrong.
